Abraham Rodriguez, 28, of Austin pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of firearm ammunition as a violent felon, storing methamphetamine paraphernalia in the presence of a child and fifth-degree drug possession — all felonies — on Thursday in Mower County District Court. He was charged on Oct. 20.
According to the court complaint, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at 7:20 a.m. on Oct. 19 at Rodriguez’s residence in the 3800 block of Third Place Southwest. Inside were three adults and five children. Rodriguez was not home.
The report states that officers found methamphetamine paraphernalia, a digital scale, 0.64 grams of methamphetamine and eight rounds of firearm ammunition.
The adults were all arrested and the children were placed with relatives.
Rodriguez returned to the residence later in the day and was arrested. When asked about the ammunition, he told police it was “old ammunition.”
The combined maximum sentence of the three felonies is 25 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.
A review of Rodriguez’s criminal history shows a prior conviction for felony first-degree assault.
Because of a request for a speedy trial, Rodriguez’s pre-trial is scheduled for Dec. 5.
