Two area school districts will go to voters for approval on two operating levies on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

At the same time, three districts will have school board elections, but none of the races are contested.

There are no elections in Austin schools this year. The next school board election won’t take place until 2018.

Both Blooming Prairie and Grand Meadow will ask for revenue authorizations, which are operating levies that help support their general funds. The general fund is the operating fund for the districts, that helps pay for staff, insurance and other operational costs.

Blooming Prairie

Blooming Prairie will hold board elections, as well as ask voters to approve a three-part revenue authorization.

The first question will ask voters to renew the current levy for 10 years, at $436 per pupil. The levy remains the same as the current levy. The first question must be approved for either of the subsequent questions to pass.

The second question asks if voters would approve an additional $100 per pupil for technology; in the third question, the district is asking for another $60 per pupil to reduce class sizes. It is estimated that the second question will raise an additional $75,000, and $45,000 for question on class size.

If approved, the new levy would go into effect for taxes payable in 2019.

Tax impact on the first question for a $150,000 home would be about $92; if the second question is approved, another $30 would be raised, and for the third question, another $18.

Three school board incumbents — Rodney Krell, Kelly Braaten and Pam Hameister — are running for new, four-year terms, as well as new candidate, Dean Meshke. With four positions open, none of the races are contested.

Polling will be held from noon to 8 p.m. at the Blooming Prairie Elementary School.

Grand Meadow

Grand Meadow will also ask for a 10-year renewal of its $899.24 per pupil revenue authorization, which will go into effect for taxes payable in 2019.

Grand Meadow will also hold an uncontested board election, to fill a vacancy. Shavonn Eastlee has filed for the seat.

Polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Legacy Gym (Door W3) at the school.

Lyle

Lyle schools will hold a board election as well; the lone candidate to fill a vacant seat is Wendy King. King was appointed to the board to fill a vacancy and must now run for a two-year term to continue. She is unopposed in her bid.

Polling will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Lyle school.
