Vikings might shut down Sam Bradford to make room for Teddy Bridgewater

The Vikings are mulling whether to place quarterback Sam Bradford on injured reserve to make room on the active roster for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
ESPN reported that Bradford visited Dr. James Andrews in Florida on Tuesday to have his ailing left knee reevaluated. That will give the Vikings more information before they need to make the expected roster move by Wednesday to restore Bridgewater to the roster.
Bradford, who has missed six of the past seven games, would be done for the regular season if placed on injured reserve. Andrews performed surgeries on Bradford for torn left ACL injuries in 2013 and 2014. He saw Bradford on Sept. 22 and determined then that no additional surgery was needed.
Bridgewater has hasn’t played since suffering a torn left ACL in August 2016. When he returns to the roster, it will be initially as a backup to Case Keenum, who is 4-2 as a starter in relief of Bradford.
A source said Monday that Bridgewater will be activated by Wednesday unless there is an unforeseen development.
It’s highly unlikely the Vikings will waive quarterback Kyle Sloter, a source said Monday, to create the roster spot for Bridgewater. So, if Bradford is not put on injured reserve, Minnesota would carry four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster.
The Vikings believe another team would pick up Sloter if they waived him in an attempt to get him on the practice squad.
The Vikings made a minor move Tuesday, signing offensive lineman Willie Beavers to the practice squad and releasing running back Bronson Hill from the squad. Beavers played last year for Minnesota after being taken in the fourth round of the draft. Hill no longer was needed for practices after the Vikings last week signed running back Mack Brown to the 53-man roster.
