Joan Patricia Rickerl, 88

Joan Patricia Rickerl, age 88, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at her home at St. Mark’s Memory Care.

Joan was born June 16, 1929, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to John and Rosalie (Robertson) Quinn. As a young girl, Joan helped her father in his drug store in Ottumwa. On Nov. 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Quentin Rickerl at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boone, Iowa. The couple moved to Taopi, Minnesota, then later to Austin. Joan was a nanny for many families in the Austin area. These families were all very special to her.

Joan was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church, where she served as a eucharistic minister. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, visiting her siblings, and most of all, spending time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Children were the light of her life.

Survivors include five children, Ted (Sandy) Rickerl, Owatonna, Minnesota; Jerome (Liz Coughlin) Rickerl, Austin; Jeff (Marti-Lynn) Rickerl, Austin; Jackie (Ben) Veri, Rineyville, Kentucky, and Monica Fairchild, Austin; 10 grandchildren, Heather Rickerl, Holly (Tim) Pearson, Kathleen (Brandon) Weir, Tony (Pam Eickstadt) Rickerl, Michael Crews, Joshua (Shelly Wangen) Touchton, Michael (Lisa) Veri, Jessa (Zach) Johnson, Christopher Rickerl and Amanda Rickerl; 10 great-grandchildren, Fritz, Kelsie, Elsa Marie, CJ, Quinn, Bella, Tellef, Allie, Ruger, and Theodore; brothers, John (Sara) Quinn, Yulee, Florida, and Thomas (Sheila Lucero) Quinn, Ottumwa; sisters, Kathleen Wiseman, Bettendorf, Iowa, Susan (Jim) Bailey, Ottumwa, and Angela Copple, Agawam, Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Rickerl; her parents; two sisters, Rosemarie Leininger and Rita Kerkman; brother, James Quinn; daughter, Teresa Landherr; and grandson, Peter Landherr.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. There will be a 6 p.m. CCW rosary on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
