Adrian L. Blake, 89, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at St. Mark’s Nursing Home.

Adrian was born in Stacyville, Iowa, to William and Gertrude (Hackenmiller) Blake.

He graduated from Visitation High School in Stacyville and briefly attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.

Adrian joined the U.S. Army in 1948 and was recalled to active duty in 1950. He was sent to Korea to a reconnaissance unit. The unit evacuated from Korea Dec. 24, 1950. His discharge was September 1951, as Sgt. 1st Class.

Adrian worked for the U.S. Post Office as a clerk and mail carrier in Dallas, Texas, Minneapolis, and Austin, Minnesota, retiring after 32 years.

In 1952 he married Dixie Wentzel and later divorced. In February 1974, Adrian married Jeanne (Simon) Ethen.

Adrian is survived by his wife, Jeanne Blake; his sons, Dave (Shirley), La Palma, California, Gary (Judy), Summit Hill, Pennsylvania, Keith (Merilee), of Oakland, Minnesota, and Leonard (Deborah) of Boscobel, Wisconsin; daughters, Diana (Kevin) of Sutter, Apple Valley, Minnesota, Joanne (Phillip) Miller, Austin, and Rebecca Driscoll, of Rosemount, Minnesota; 27 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Todd (Lucinda) Ethen, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Tim (Linda) Ethen of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Laurie (Gregg) Cottingham, of North Mankato, Minnesota, and Troy Ethen, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Sherry (Ethen) Weaver, of Austin, 14 step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Alex Blake, of Stacyville, and William Blake Jr., of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters, Dorothy Blake, of Omaha, Rosemary (Bud) Schaefer, of Adams, Minnesota, and Joan (Michael) Vitale, of Poughkeepsie, New York; and special nephew, Ted Blake, of Dubuque; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Adrian is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Vicky; son, Alan Blake; brothers, John Blake, and Quentin Blake; and sisters, Marjorie Smith, Alma Wendelin, Alverna Driscoll, Janet Quentero and Ethel Bertholmey.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Friends may call at 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
