No injuries were reported after a Mower County deputy’s squad car was sideswiped Thursday morning on Interstate 90.
According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, the deputy was assisting the Minnesota State Patrol at 7:55 a.m. on Thursday with the removal of a deer that had been struck in the west bound lane of Interstate 90, about 1 ½ miles east of the Austin city limits.
The deputy’s squad car was parked partially on the left shoulder with its lights flashing.
At that time, a pick-up truck towing a trailer failed to merge into the right lane and sideswiped the squad car with its left side mirror and trailer tire.
Damage to the squad car was estimated at approximately $9,800. It is unknown how much damage was done to the truck, but the trailer lost the tire.
No one was injured in the incident; however, the driver of the pick-up truck was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains.
Law enforcement urges people to slow down or merge for stopped emergency vehicles.
