BLOOMING PRAIRIE — The Awesome Blossoms couldn’t overcome their offensive struggles as they lost a boys basketball game to Goodhue by a score of 39-34 in BP Thursday.
Blooming Prairie committed 17 turnovers and it missed nine of its 11 attempts from the free throw line. BP also struggled from the field in a game that was tied at 6-6 with five minutes left in the first half.
“I don’t know if we’re just lacking confidence right now or if we’re not matching up with the desire of the teams that we’re playing,” BP head coach Nate Piller said. “We need somebody to step up in a leadership position and right now we don’t have anybody taking the bull by the horns and be willing to take charge and commit to running an offense.”
Max Romeo connected on a three-pointer to bring BP within 27-26 with 5:56 left in the game, but Goodhue (2-1 overall) scored the next six points and BP got no closer than four down the stretch.
The first half saw both defenses dominate as BP held a 13-9 lead at the break after Kaden Thomas connected on a late three-pointer.
“The defense is pretty good, but we’re not finishing with rebounds,” Piller said. “We’ve got to complete plays.”
Jake Ressler had two points, 17 rebounds, five assists and six blocked shots for BP.
