Carl F. “Chic” Sayles, 98, of Austin, Minnesota, departed this earthly life for his eternal life in heaven on Dec. 17, 2017.

He was born in Laclede, Missouri, on June 4, 1919, to Carl F. and Luella (McAlister) Sayles. He worked as a salesman and a building contractor for most of his life, but the job he loved most after retirement was being a playground attendant at Becker Primary School in Minnesota. For over 50 years, Chic and Doris had Bible studies in their home. After retirement, they traveled to Thailand to aid a missionary friend. Chic will be remembered for his love for the Lord, his sense of humor, his loving hugs and overwhelming generosity. He leaves behind a spiritual legacy and beloved family and friends.

Chic is survived by his wife of 74 years, Doris (Day) Sayles; children, Gregory (Joy) Sayles of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Cheryl (David) Van Wingerden of Austin; four granddaughters, Heidi (Jeff) Anderson, Cori (Ozzie) Lindquist, Lora Sayles, and Marcia Sayles; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, at Faith Church, 1800 12th St. SW, Austin, MN 55912. Light refreshments will follow the service.
