The Blue Sox (7-11 overall) broke up open a close game in an 11-3 win over the Manakto Twins on the road Wednesday night in an amateur baseball game.
After leading 5-3, the Blue Sox used a bunt to trigger a six-run rally in the seventh inning that was capped off by a three-run double by Pat Wolard.
“It was Blue Sox baseball. We bunted and they couldn’t make the play, then we racked up a few walks and hits,” Blue Sox manager Josh Kunze said. “Mankato is one of the top five teams in the state so this was a big win.”
Austin took a 4-1 lead after two innings and the biggest threat Mankato came up with was in the fifth inning — when they came up with a lead off single and stolen base. But Austin starter Sean Breslin struck out the next three Twins hitters to end the threat.
“After that they didn’t threaten us,” Kunze said. “Sean did a great job on the mound.”
Mankato had six errors in the loss and the Blue Sox racked up 11 hits.
Ryan Green took the loss for Mankato.
