Austin Superintendent of Schools Dave Krenz will serve another three years as the leader of the school district.

On Monday, the Austin School Board approved a new, three-year contract for Krenz.

Krenz will receive a salary of $162,442 in the 2018-2019 school years, a 1.9 percent increase; $165,691 for the 2019-2020 school year, a 2 percent increase; and a salary of $169,005, also a 2 percent increase, in the 2020-2021 school year.

With benefits and salary together, the collective increase over three years will be 11 percent.

The approval came unanimously during the board’s regular meeting on Monday.

“I feel like it is really fair,” said Board President Angie Goetz. “I feel it is a good contract, and that we are very happy with the job he is doing. We really do appreciate, Dave, all the things you do.”

Others noted as well that Krenz’ 2017-2018 salary was below the median salary for the schools in the Big 9; only two — Red Wing ($148,643) and Winona ($144,840) were lower. The Red Wing salary is for the 2016-2017 year and is under negotiation. All the rest are 2017-2018 figures.

Rochester’s superintendent is the highest-paid, at $212,000, followed by Mankato ($176,322), Albert Lea ($169,206), Northfield ($165,000) Owatonna ($160,000) and Faribault ($159,300).
