A convicted felon added three more felonies to his record on Tuesday in Mower County District Court.

Dargan Max Patterson, 24, of Austin pleaded guilty to felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, felony failure to register as a predatory offender and felony violating a domestic abuse no contact order within 10 years of two or more convictions. All charges stemmed from separate incidents.

Patterson was first arrested on Sept. 4 after fleeing on a motorcycle from police who were trying to pull him over for a broken taillight on Sept. 3. Patterson crashed the motorcycle at the intersection of Fifth Street and 13th Avenue Southeast. He was able to escape on foot, but was arrested when police found out where he was living. He told the police he ran because he “wasn’t ready to go to jail.”

A warrant was issued for Patterson’s arrest after an incident on Oct. 9 when police went to a residence in the 200 block of 25th Street Southwest on a call concerning two women not leaving the residence. Police learned Patterson had been living at the residence with a woman who has a domestic assault no contact order against him. Patterson had invited the two women over after he got into an argument with the female resident, but ran when he learned she was calling the police.

Mower County deputies arrested Patterson on the warrant on Oct. 26 at a residence in the 200 block of Pine Street in Dexter. Chief Deputy Mark May, who knew Patterson was a predatory offender, asked a deputy to find out how long Patterson was living at the residence. Patterson told the deputy “a couple of days.” A check with the State of Minnesota Predatory Offender Registration website showed Patterson had not updated his address.

A review of Patterson’s criminal history shows prior convictions for domestic assault and violating a no contact order.

Patterson will be sentenced on March 2.
