Daniel Wayne Clayton, 80, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
Dan was born Feb. 18, 1937, in Ada, Minnesota, to Fred and Allet (Gevings) Clayton. He graduated from Ada High School in 1955, came to Austin for a visit, and never went back.
In December 1955, he was united in marriage to Kaye Bjerk. They had two daughters, Cheri and Liz. This union was later dissolved. Dan was later united in marriage to Anna Pedersen. Anna brought four children to the family, Robyn, Randy, Rod and Ryan.
Dan was employed by American Can Company until the closure of the Austin plant. He then worked for the city of Austin in the Park and Recreation Department until his retirement.
Dan was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Austin Eagle Aerie 703, where he served as president from 1976-1977 and 2008-2009. He was named Eagle of the Year in 1981. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, the Minnesota Twins and spending time with his family.
He is survived by daughters, Cheri (Paul) Jenkins, Liz (Brad) Mulholland, and Robyn (Mark) Byers; sons, Randy Pedersen, Ryan (Jennifer) Pedersen, and Rodney (Mary) Pedersen; sisters, Shelia Dion and Linda Novak; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Allet Clayton; wife, Anna Clayton; and brother, Kenny Clayton.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church
