Matthew Carl Maxim Koch, 25, of Austin pleaded guilty to felony third-degree possession of 10 grams or more of a narcotic drug other than heroin as part of a plea agreement on Friday in Mower County District Court. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charge on Nov. 30.
A charge of felony violent felon in possession of a stun gun will be dropped at the sentencing.
An officer stopped a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica at 7:13 p.m. on Nov. 16 in the 500 block of Eighth Avenue Southeast because there was a search warrant out on the vehicle. The officer made the driver, Koch, exit the vehicle and handcuffed him.
A canine sniffed the car and alerted to the presence of drugs. Officers searched the car and found approximately 38.27 grams of methamphetamine in a back seat cup holder.
A review of Koch’s criminal history shows prior conviction of felony drug possession and check forgery.
A sentencing date has yet to be scheduled.
