LEROY — The LeRoy-Ostrander boys basketball team suffered a second half let-down as it lost back-to-back games for the first time this season when it lost to Fillmore Central 51-45 in LeRoy Monday.

The Falcons (5-13 overall) took the lead for good when Logan Corson hit a three-pointer to make it 45-43 FC with 3:36 left and the Cardinals (13-5 overall) were able to convert on just one field goal the rest of the way. That score game when Trey Hungerholt, who had 20 points and 12 rebounds, scored on a put-back to make it 46-45 FC with 1:04 left in the game, but the Cardinals couldn’t tie or take the lead down the stretch.

“It was a big game for Fillmore and they came out and the beat us. Hats off to them,” LO head coach Trevor Carrier said. “We try to take that next step every time and right now it’s uncharted territory for us to be the favorite. Right now we showed that we don’’t deserve that title.”

The Cardinals held a six-point lead at halftime after Seth Royston hit a three-pointer late in the first half, but the Falcons scored the first six points of the second half and it was a back-and-forth battle the rest of the way. LO took a 43-40 lead when Hungerholt hit a three-pointer with 5:24 left in the game, but the Cards struggled in the closing minutes.

“It was our worst night and the boys know that,” Carrier said. “There was no energy or focus and we didn’t shoot or pass well. I don’t mind losing, but I don’t like it when we don’t have effort. You could tell something wasn’t right.”

Hungerholt recently scored his 1,000th career point in a 63-53 loss to Wabasha-Kellogg Saturday.
