Seven may have suffered injuries Sunday after two vehicles fell into the washed-out region of County Road 34, the highway where an Oakland resident was killed only two weeks before during major floods in the area.
Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, multiple fire departments, the Austin Police Department and medical personnel were dispatched to the County Road 34 and County Road 21 intersection around 1:35 a.m. on reports that two vehicles, one with six occupants, had fallen from the road.
One had been traveling southbound on County Road 34, and had likely traversed barricades. Injuries are still unknown for all six occupants, who were all transported to Austin Medical Center by Gold Cross Ambulance.
The other vehicle was traveling northbound in response to the accident when his vehicle hit the washout area. The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, suffered minor injuries, according to the newspaper.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Freeborn County Emergency Management, Albert Lea Medical Center Ambulance, Austin Gold Cross, Albert Lea, Austin, Hayward, London and Myrtle fire departments, Austin Police Department, Tow-N-Travel and the Freeborn County Highway Department all assisted with the accident, the press release stated.
