Hayfield girls beat Goodhue to get to HVL title game

The Hayfield girls basketball team clinched a trip to the HVL title game when it beat Goodhue (19-7 overall, 12-4 HVL) 72-58 on the road Friday.
Emma Holst scored 13 of her 16 points in the first half for Hayfield (22-4 overall, 13-2 HVL) and Carrie Rutledge scored all 17 of her points in the second half.
Hayfield will host Stewartville (20-5 overall), which lost to Hayfield 70-68 in overtime on Jan. 16, Monday at 7 p.m.
This will be Hayfield’s third trip to the HVL title game in school history and it is the team’s last season in the HVL before it moves to the Gopher Conference next season.
“The girls are really excited,” Hayfield co-head coach Kasey Krekling said. “They celebrated a lot and they really wanted that championship game at home. Hayfield’s never gotten one in boys or girls basketball and we want to get that last one.”
