The Mower County Commissioners last week approved over $6 million in six road projects, to be done this summer.
Rochester Sand and Gravel was the successful bidder on all the projects. The only other bidder was Ulland Bros.
According to County Engineer Mike Hansen, four of the six — county state-aid highways — will be paid for by a combination of the half-cent county sales tax, and wind tax.
The remaining two – state aid highway projects — will be funded by the state gas tax and license fees.
Bids were so low, he noted, that more projects may be done this summer, in addition to others planned.
He has yet to bring a recommendation for the new projects to the county board.
The current projects include:
State-aid projects:
•A 4-mile mill and overlay stretch between 745th Avenue and 280th Street, and the North County Line in Pleasant Valley and Racine townships.
•A 1.8 mile mill and overlay stretch between 540th Avenue and 38th Avenue.
County State-Aid Highways:
•A 15-mile mill and overlay stretch on 110 Street Avenue between 610th Avenue and State Highway 56, in Nevada, Adams, Lodi and LeRoy townships.
•A 4-mile mill and overlay stretch on 640th Avenue between the South County Line and 140th Street in Adams Township.
•A 3.6-mile mill and overlay stretch on 240th Street between the West County Line and State Highway 218 in Lansing Township.
•A 3-mile mill and overlay stretch on 540th Avenue between 175th Street and the south Austin city limits, in Austin Township.
