Spotlight on Our Place Recreation Center
Published 11:03 am Saturday, February 17, 2018
Our Place Recreation Center is a social enrichment and skill-development center dedicated to serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our Place is Austin’s and Mower County’s premier educational, recreational and social facility for this very deserving population.
Located in Austin, Our Place serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities from Austin and surrounding communities. We are open five days a week, and offer programs for youth, adults and senior citizens. Most of our members have some degree of mental retardation, however, many program participants have secondary disabilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, Prader-Willi, down syndrome, visual and hearing impairments and/or emotional and behavioral disorders.
At Our Place, we believe that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve more opportunities for education, skill building, friendships and fun. All our programs have a dual focus: they are designed so that participants can acquire new skills and so that they can have the chance to socialize with peers.
For individuals who are affected by intellectual and developmental disabilities, Our Place represents a nurturing, welcoming second home of sorts. It is a place where they can feel they truly belong, and where new opportunities, new challenges and new friendships await them.
Do you want to have fun and be involved in the community? The Arc Mower County’s Our Place Recreation Center gives you opportunities to have fun, learn social skills and participate in community activities.
Give your self-confidence a boost and develop lifelong friendships. Learn more at http://bit.ly/2EoE8HC.
23rd Annual Rose Sale – Where Promise Lives, Hope Blossoms
Sale Dates: Feb. 19 – March 30
Pick-up and delivery day: Tuesday, April 17. Roses can be picked-up between 10 a.m. and p.m. Roses will be delivered between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Let someone know that you care and support the work of The Arc Mower County by supporting our annual rose sale. All proceeds from The sale benefit children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities including down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism and epilepsy. One in 10 families has a member with a disability. Your participation provides critical funding for programs and services.
Any level of support is appreciated. Here are a few suggestions:
At your work — coordinate a pre-sale rose sale. You can pre-sell roses by emailing your co-workers and encouraging them to order. Call The Arc with a group rose order and the roses can be delivered to your office!
In your neighborhood — ask your neighbors, friends and family to order roses.
Brighten someone’s day — order roses to give to your customers or employees to show how much you appreciate them.
Volunteer – Rose Sale coordinators are needed throughout Austin and the surrounding communities to coordinate rose sales at local churches, businesses, etc.
In school – School groups can sell individual roses to support their peers that attend activities.
Volunteers are needed to help with pick-up and delivery day. Register to volunteer by emailing http://bit.ly/2zSyB9b.
