Hayfield girls start fast to beat Rushford-Peterson

The No. 2 seeded Hayfield girls basketball team started strong and cruised past No. 15 Rushford-Peterson (6-22 overall) 84-20 in a Section 1A tournament opener in Hayfield Thursday.
The Vikings (23-4 overall) used a 28-0 run over the first nine minutes of the contest to take a commanding lead. Hayfield will now take on No. 7 seeded Blooming Prairie in the Section 1A quarterfinals in Mayo Civic Center Monday at 6 p.m.
“We liked the defensive intensity tonight and we need to carry that over to the next game,” Hayfield co-head coach Kasey Krekling said.
