Alvena Glynn, 103

Alvena Glynn, 103, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, where she had resided for a short time.

Alvena was born April 20, 1914, in Clare, Iowa, to Pearl Cecil and Maude (Gill) Travis. She attended country school in Bennington Township, Mower County, and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1934. While in high school Alvena played two years on the undefeated girls’ basketball team. On April 17, 1938, she was united in marriage to Elmore “John” Glynn and together they lived in the Grand Meadow area all their lives. John died in 1977. In her early years Alvena worked as a switchboard operator in Grand Meadow and was a homemaker for the majority of her life. In her free time she enjoyed quilting, painting, reupholstering furniture and decorating. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, playing bridge, entertaining and was a member of the sewing club in Grand Meadow.

She is survived by two sons, James D. (Betty) Glynn of Sanger, California, and Doug (Polly) Glynn of Grand Meadow; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beulah Ankeny of Stewartville, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Larry Glynn; one daughter, Linda Severson; a granddaughter, Angela Kraetch; a great-granddaughter, Heather Kraetch; one sister, Iona Wurn; and a brother, Bill Travis.

A memorial service was held Feb. 11, at Grand Meadow Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow with the Rev. Marie Anderson officiating.
