Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am CST Tuesday; Austin schools close early

Austin Public Schools will dismiss early today due to the bad weather. All of Mower County remains under a winter weather warning until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Austin schools will release at the following times:

  • CLC Pre-School Programming will dismiss at 11:30 a.m.
  • Woodson K-Center will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.
  • Elementary Schools will dismiss at 1:05 p.m.
  • I.J. Holton/Ellis Middle School will dismiss at 1:20 p.m,.
  • Austin High School will dismiss at 1:30 p.m.

All Austin Public Schools events scheduled for this evening are cancelled, including athletic contests, adult education classes, community education classes, meetings, concerts and athletic practices.

Special Notices:

  • All After School Programs/Targeted Services are cancelled.
  • High School and Middle School practices are cancelled.
  • Kids Korner opens at the release time at regular sites and is open until 6 p.m.
  • Ellis Middle School Concert scheduled for tonight has been postponed to Thursday.
  • Adult Basic Education Classes are cancelled for this evening.

Lyle schools will dismiss at noon.

Heavy snow, with total accumulations of four to six inches, is expected, as well as a light glaze of ice, according to the National Weather Service in LaCrosse, Wis.

Difficult travel conditions are expected during Monday’s evening commute, with winds gusting as high as 45 mph, which will cause blowing and drifting snow. Visibility could be reduced to a half a mile or less in open areas.

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make travel hazardous or impossible.
