Donald Laverne Hanson, 86, of Adams, Minnesota, died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, Minnesota.
Don was born Sept. 28, 1931, at home in rural Adams to Henry and Celia (Pederson) Hanson. He graduated from Adams High School in 1949 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April 1951. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. On July 23, 1954, he married Connie Fisher, from Trenton, Michigan, at David Adams Memorial Chapel on the naval base. After being discharged from the Navy, they returned to Minnesota, where he farmed with his father. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of LeRoy, Minnesota, where he had served as an elder. Don served on the Adams Elevator board for a number of years and was a member of the Adams American Legion. Don farmed all of his years after returning from the Navy and never really considered himself retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Celia; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Roberts; brother-in-law, Donald Lee; and niece, Holly Hanson King.
Don is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters, Shauna (Norb) Schlichter and Sherri (Brian) Miller; son, Scott (Kate) Hanson; 11 grandchildren, Emily, Eric, Nolan and Jeff Schlichter, Clint Miller, Ashley Kidwell, April Ulwelling, Chelsea Turner, Hannah, Rachel and Mitchell Hanson; 15 great-grandchildren; one step great-granddaughter; three step great-great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Sharon) Hanson; sister, Darlene Lee; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, at First Presbyterian Church in LeRoy with the Rev. John Kerr officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Taopi, Minnesota, with Adams American Legion Post 146 in charge of military rites. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Adams Funeral Home and for one hour before the service on Thursday at the church.
