City council unanimously approved bids from Kiker Brothers, Fox Electric
The Austin City Council unanimously approved contracts with Kiker Brothers Inc. and Fox Electric during its regular meeting Monday evening to do roofing and electrical work on City Hall.
Money for the projects will come from the city’s building fund.
Public Works Director Steven Lang and Administrative Services Director Tom Dankert received bids for a new roofing system and recommended a quote of $40,101 from Kiker Brothers for a fully adhered ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber roof system. Allweather Roof provided a quote of $51,684.
Lang and Dankert also received quotes for a ballasted EPDM roof system from Kiker Brothers and Allweather Roof at $35,565 and $39,744 respectively, but opted for the fully adhered EPDM roof system.
Kiker Brothers will remove the existing 4,100 square-foot roof down to the concrete decking and replace it with a Firestone adhered 60-mil EPDM roofing system and new 24-gauge prefinished sheet metal roof edge copings and flashings. The city will be provided with a 20-year manufacturer warranty on the roof.
The last time work was done on the roof was in the 1990s, according to Dankert.
Fox Electric quoted a price of $12,500 to replace existing lights in the Parks and Recreation office and the first floor hallway with LED lights.
This was recommended over a quote of $12,715 submitted by Kestner Electric.
The work will encompass the removal and replacement of 35 existing light fixtures.
The LED lights will lower energy costs as advocated by the city’s Sustainability Task Force, which focuses on making Austin a greener city.
