MINNEAPOLIS — A woman who battled cancer 20 years ago is back at the St. Paul hospital that diagnosed and treated, but this time she’s a doctor.

Jen Pratt was about 11-years-old when she decided she wanted to become a physician, WCCO-TV reported. Pratt underwent chemotherapy to battle bone cancer for about a year and had surgery at Children’s St. Paul to remove a tumor in her leg.

“I wanted to give back and support other families the way that I felt so supported, from that point on I knew that I wanted to go into medicine,” she said.

Now she gets to work alongside some of the nurses who treated her about two decades ago.

“It’s really incredible to be able to walk down these halls and feel like I’m delivering the care that I felt so impacted by as a child,” she said. “And honestly, it’s a privilege to be able to work here. I love it. I love my job.”

Make-A-Wish Minnesota also had a big impact on her childhood. Pratt said the foundation was able to provide a light at the end of the tunnel.

“Well, I remember really looking forward to it and counting down the chemotherapy treatments I had, thinking, ‘OK, this many more treatments and then I get to go on my wish trip,’” she said.

She used her wish to go to Disney World and stayed at the Give Kids the World resort during the trip. She’ll be returning there this fall as a volunteer.
