Valeria M. LaVallie, 95, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, March 25, 2018, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, Minnesota.
Valeria Marian Tschida was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Holdingford, Minnesota, to Michael and Frances (Patrias) Tschida. She moved to Austin in 1939 and married Gordon LaVallie on May 9, 1942.
The couple had 10 children. Six of her children preceded her in death; five boys with cystic fibrosis and daughter Cathy at age three months from heart surgery. Valeria was a very busy, wonderful mom, caring for sick and healthy children. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, knitting, cribbage, gardening, reading and doing puzzles. She so enjoyed playing cards with everyone, especially her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church since 1960, where she was active in the CCW, served as head of the kitchen for activities such as funeral and wedding setups and bingo. Valeria worked as a bookkeeper for LaVallie Beverage Service, at Hormel Foods Corporation, and Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Survivors include her children, Gene (Georgia) LaVallie, Eagan, Minnesota, Donald (Diane) LaVallie, Watertown, New York, Elaine (Larry) Howell, New Prague, Minnesota, and Ann LaVallie, Albuquerque, New Mexico; her grandchildren, Derek, Mike, Kristin, Jeffrey, Ben, Rick LaVallie, Shawn Kadlec, Andrea Palm, Chris Kadlec, Angelea Larkin and Savannah LaVallie; 15 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Robert, Jerry and Michael; and sisters, Leona, Louise and Doris. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Frances Tschida; her husband, Gordon LaVallie; her-in-laws, Henry and Emma LaVallie; her children, Michael, Gordon, Terry, Daniel, Catherine and James; and her siblings.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Austin with Father Gregory Leif officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. prior to Mass at church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
