Robert D. Day, 70

Robert David Day (“Butch,” “Bubba”), age 70 of Northwood, Iowa, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City, Iowa.
He was born April 1, 1947 in Austin, the son of Robert A. and Myra Lucille “Dolly” (Davis) Day. Following graduation from Austin High School in 1965, Robert’s jobs included working at Kinsman’s flower shop, operating a Clark gas station, and working as a security guard for Hormel Foods Corporation. His last job was with REM-Woodvale for over 30 years. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On Sept. 7, 1968, Robert and Sharon M. Carlson were married at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Sharon passed away November 7, 1992. On August 24, 1999, he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean (Reed) Shelton in Las Vegas. Bubba was a softball umpire for many years and was a long-time bowler. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, and moved to Northwood, Iowa in May of 2017.
Robert is survived by his wife Barbara of Northwood; two nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Sharon, and his brother Gary Culton.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with Chaplain Theresa Turnbull officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 91.
