Council approves contracts for street projects, asphalt supplies

The Austin City Council approved three contracts, two for street projects and one for seasonal asphalt supplies, during its regular meeting on Monday.

Hansen Hauling and Excavating, Inc. of Austin was awarded the contracts for the street projects. These projects include street reconstruction at 14th and 15th Avenues Southwest and the Woodson School Area (Fifth and Seventh Streets, Eighth Drive and 15th Avenue Southeast), which will be done at a cost of $567,762.50 and $569,343.75 respectively. The projects will be funded by money from the Capital Improvement, Waste Water Treatment Plant and Stormwater Utility funds.

The reconstruction work will involve pavement removal, sewer (storm and sanitary) improvements, asphalt paving and sidewalk replacement.

The council also approved a contract with Ulland Bros. Inc. of Albert Lea for the purchase of seasonal asphalt supplies for $247,320. The amount is broken down with a base bid of $211,500 and $35,820 to cover the cost of hauling, which is a rate of $0.40 per ton per mile based on one direction.

The money will come from the city’s Streets and Highways road materials budget.
