Street projects, goals on council agenda

The Austin City Council will continue to approve contract bids on summer street projects during its next regular meeting on Monday.

The council will award bids for asphalt street construction work on 19th Street Northeast and Fifth Street and 12th Avenue Northwest.

They will also be hearing rezoning requests and voting on a resolution in support of the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center being designated as a regional park or trail destination in greater Minnesota.

City Administrator Craig Clark will review the 2018 council goals during the council’s work session on Monday. The council has four major goals for 2018: provide Austin residents quality city services, make Austin a leader in economic development, make Austin a community that values public programs/amenities and protect Austin’s tax base and preserve its existing housing.

Austin Utilities General Manager Mark Nibaur will also address the council about a possible natural gas prepay program during the work session.

The council will hold its next regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 16, in the Council Chambers located in the basement of City Hall. The work session will take place in the conference room immediately following the meeting.
