Jesse Deane Kranz, 33, of Austin was sentenced on Thursday in Mower County District Court to 60 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for felony violent felon in possession of a firearm. He received credit for 52 days served.

He received a concurrent sentence of 19 months in prison for felony fifth-degree drug possession from the same case.

He also pleaded guilty on Thursday to another charge of felony fifth-degree drug possession from a different case and received another concurrent sentence of 19 months in prison.

He received credit for 17 days served.

A charge of felony violent felon in possession of firearm ammunition was dismissed.

Judge Kevin Siefken issued the sentences.

Kranz was arrested on July 28 after officers executed a search warrant on his residence in the 1900 block of First Avenue Northeast.  Kranz had a syringe in his person and told police there were several more in the house. He also told them there was a firearm hidden in a laundry basket in his bedroom.

Police seized a Taurus 9 mm handgun, a digital scale, 3.56 grams of heroin, a small amount of marijuana and $494 in cash.

Kranz was arrested again on April 8 after officers received a call regarding a dispute at a residence. Kranz was outside the residence and officers noticed a syringe on the ground in the snow. They searched him and found a bag containing 0.96 grams of methamphetamine in his pocket.
