Jesus Alejandro Ybarra, 24, of Redwood Falls was sentenced to 90 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for felony first-degree possession of 50 grams or more of cocaine or methamphetamine. He received credit for 72 days served.

Another charge of felony first-degree drug possession of 50 or more grams of cocaine or methamphetamine from the same case was dismissed on March 29.

Judge Christa M. Daily issued the sentence.

Ybarra was shot just above the kneecap in the early morning hours of July 8 in what he claimed was a drive-by shooting outside his residence in the 800 block of Second Avenue Southwest. He was treated at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin and was later moved to Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus-Rochester for surgery.

Police then executed a search warrant on Ybarra’s residence, where two women, a man and three children were staying. When asked if there was contraband in the house, a woman admitted there were drugs in a “peace sign bag.” The bag contained the 296.5 grams of methamphetamine, an estimated street value of $20,000.

Ybarra later acknowledged the drugs were his.
