Felon pleads guilty to weapon, DWI charges

Jacob Patrick Finnegan, 23, of Austin pleaded guilty to felony violent felon in possession of a firearm and gross misdemeanor DWI-under the influence of a controlled substance as part of a plea agreement on Friday in Mower County District Court. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges on April 2.

Charges of felony violent felon in possession of a firearm ammunition, felony fifth-degree drug possession, gross misdemeanor intent to escape tax, misdemeanor possession of over 1.4 grams of marijuana in a motor vehicle, misdemeanor driving after revocation of his license and misdemeanor no insurance will be dismissed at the sentencing.

Finnegan was arrested in March 21 after an officer on patrol pulled Finnegan over at the intersection of Third Avenue and 16th Street Northeast due to an expired tag. Finnegan appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was placed under arrest.

A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded Glock 22 wrapped in an orange and pink t-shirt.

A review of Finnegan’s criminal history shows prior convictions for drug possession.

Finnegan will be sentenced on Oct. 18.
