Taking the next step into the future; Grads to get diplomas at RCC today

An estimated 270 students will receive their college diplomas today during two commencement ceremonies at Riverland Community College.
About 165 students will be participating in a 3 p.m. ceremony. Those honored are those receiving Associate of Arts, Art, Business, Global Studies, Health Sciences, Human Services, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Personal Training/Coaching, Phlebotomy Technician, Practical Nursing and Radiography.
The 6:30 p.m. ceremony is for 105 students graduating in associate degrees in career technical programs.
Both ceremonies will be held in the gym at Riverland.
All told, there are 580 students graduating from Riverland’s fall, spring and summer semesters.
Keynote speaker for both ceremonies will be Tammy Snee of Austin. The student speaker at both ceremonies will be Momen Salama, an international student from Cairo, Egypt.
A Distinguished Alumni Award will be given to Nancy Christopherson, an alumnus who was also an English as a Second Languarge instructor who retired from Riverland in December, after 26 years.
Ages range this year from 17 to 73.
