Taylor Gordon Maricle, 22, of Austin was charged on Monday in Mower County District Court with felony check forgery-offer/possess-intent to defraud.
According to court documents, a police officer was dispatched at 2:32 p.m. on April 21 on a fraudulent check call at Hy-Vee. He spoke to the store manager, who said the store allegedly received several checks that were written from a closed account that belonged to Brian Brouik, who is currently incarcerated in prison. The manager provided copies of three fraudulent checks and surveillance photos that allegedly showed Maricle.
The checks were dated April 11 and 13 and were made out for the amounts of $244.51, $212.82 and $193.41, according to the court documents. Two contained Broulik’s signature while the other allegedly had Maricle’s signature. Maricle also allegedly used his Hy-Vee Fuel Saver card during each transaction.
A review of Maricle’s criminal record shows a prior conviction for obstructing the legal process-interfering with a peace officer.
Maricle will appear in court again on May 29.
