One individual was arrested and four others were cited after a group of juveniles and young adults argued and fought on Monday night at Galloway Park.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, police responded to a call at 10:37 p.m. on Monday about a group of people arguing and fighting at the park. Participants told police a group of approximately 15-20 people, primarily females, had begun a verbal argument at Sterling Shopping Center earlier in the evening. The argument continued at Kwik Trip on West Oakland Avenue and on social media before culminating at Galloway Park.
A car struck a 21-year-old male who lives in the 900 block of Second Avenue when he came outside to investigate the commotion, according to Krueger. The victim said when he stepped outside, the vehicle went north on a nearby street, then did a U-turn and came straight at him, striking him in the hip, though not hard enough to knock him over. A Gold Cross Ambulance crew examined the victim and recommended an x-ray, but he declined any further medical examinations.
The alleged driver of the vehicle, Keyoeonya Deshay Garrett, 19, was arrested and is in Mower County Jail awaiting possible charges of second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and driving after suspension of her license. The case has been forwarded to the city and county attorney offices for review.
Two juvenile females, an adult female, Mariah Santa Cruz, 18, and an adult male, Devonta Zeigler, 19, were all cited for disorderly conduct, according to Krueger.
No further injuries were reported.
