The Austin Human Rights Commission will be presenting the Austin Strategic Welcoming Plan to the Austin City Council during the council’s next regular meeting on Monday evening.

The plan is the culmination of three years of work across the community to create a clear roadmap for making Austin a truly welcoming community. It was created with the assistance of local government, schools, businesses and nonprofits.

“This is the first time we have a community-wide consensus on what a truly Welcoming Austin looks like”, said Jason Baskin, chairman of the Austin Human Rights Commission and one of the leaders of the project. “The group did an amazing job listening and coming up with ideas that have strong community support to create real and positive change.”

The council will also be approving the installation of pedestrian bump outs at Fourth Street and Fourth Avenue Northeast with “no parking” signage installed along the rec center frontage.

Kim Hillberg of CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP will be presenting the city’s 2017 audit report during the council’s work session following the meeting.

According to the report, the revenues of the general fund came in close to budget, with 99.89 percent of the budget taken in and 97.05 percent of the final approved budget spent.

The council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 21, in the council chambers located in the basement of City Hall. The work session will be held immediately following the meeting in the conference room located across the hall from the council chambers.
