Seven individuals will be inducted into the Pacelli Hall of Fame at a dinner hosted by the Pacelli Booster Club on June 15. This event is held annually in conjunction with the Pacelli Golf Day, an annual fundraiser sponsored by the Pacelli Booster Club. In addition to these individuals Pacelli will also be honoring the 1958 Pacelli State Champion basketball team as well the 2018 state champion LP girls basketball team that evening.

Here are the inductees:

Francis Deig, teacher/coach 1930’s (deceased)

Deig spent five years as a teacher and coach at St Augustine High School. Deig’s 1935 and 1936 football teams went undefeated while setting a state scoring record in 1935. He also coached the basketball team that won a state championship in 1936 and were invited to compete in a National Catholic School tournament in Chicago.

Deig continued his coaching career at St. Thomas College in St. Paul. He served as the Athletic Director as well as both football and basketball coach.

Under coach Deig, the St. Thomas football team won four MIAC titles in 1947, 1948, 1949, and 1956. The 1956 team went undefeated and was invited to the Cigar Bowl. Mr. Deig was named Coach of the Year for small Catholic colleges that year. He was also very successful as a basketball coach for the Tommies winning one MIAC title during his tenure.

In 1983 Mr. Deig was named to the St. Thomas College Hall of Fame.

Dale Vaughan, class of 1950 (deceased)

Vaughan earned all-state honors in both football and basketball at St. Ausgustine’s High School. In his senior he played on the third place basketball team at state.

Vaughan went on to attend St John’s College where he graduated in 1957 after serving in the military during the Korean War. What followed after college was a long and distinguished career in education and coaching.

Vaughan’s first stop was at Owatonna Marian from 1958-60, then he than spent three years at DeLaSalle High School. In 1963, Vaughan moved to Shakopee High School where he taught for 30 years, coached track for eight years, and  coached football for 25 years.

From 1989 to 1993 he served as the high school Athletic Director. In 1994 Shakopee High School dedicated their football field to Dale Vaughan, naming it Vaughan Memorial Field. They also award a scholarship in his name to a graduating senior who demonstrates extraordinary leadership. Dale was married to Nancy and they raised eight children.

Dale Felten, class of 1971

Felten was a three-time letter winner in football and basketball. He was the quarterback for the football team, earning all-conference honors his senior year.

In basketball Felten earned all-conference honors his junior and senior years and was named All-State in 1971. Felten played basketball for two years at Austin Junior College where the team won its conference both years and advanced to the National tournament in each of those years.

Felten graduated from Mankato State University with a teaching and coaching degree and immediately accepted a job with Wanamingo High School. Shortly after, he made a move to Brentsville High School in Virginia where he taught and coached for over 30 years.

Felten held assistant coaching positions in football, basketball, and golf, and eventually moved into head coaching positions in both basketball and golf. Felten’s teams won numerous titles under his leadership. Dale passed away in February, 2018.

Lori Mittag, class of 1973

Mittag was a pioneer in girls sports at Pacelli. She ran on the school’s first girls track team as a sophomore and played on the school’s first girls basketball team in her senior year. Mittag also found time to participate in cheerleading all through high school, where her squad won the cheerleading trophy at state her sophomore and junior years.

In track, Mittag was a member of the 440 and 880 relay teams, winning state titles in both events during her sophomore, junior, and senior campaigns. Mittag graduated from St Cloud State in 1981 with a degree in Criminal Justice Studies before enrolling in Hamline Law School. She graduated third in her class.

In 1984 Mittag began a 10-year stint in the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office under the leadership of Skip Humphrey III. She is currently managing her husband’s law office and for the past 21 years served as Judge in Ramsey County Conciliation Court.

Mittag lives in Minneapolis with her husband Jeffery McNaught. They have two children.

Ryan Bickler, class of 1996

Bickler was a six-year letter winner in cross country, earning all-conference honors his sophomore, junior and senior year. He was a two-time state qualifier, earning all-state honors his senior year with a fourth place finish at state.

Bickler still holds the school 5k record in cross country at 15:55. He was a four-time letter winner in track, qualifying as all-conference both his junior and senior years. Bickler was a two-time state qualifier for the state track meet, earning All-State honors in the 3200 meter race. He still holds the school record in the 1600 meters (4:25.45).

Bickler was an exceptional student as well earning numerous academic awards and was the class valedictorian. Bickler continued his running career at St. Mary’s University in Winona. He set several records in both indoor and outdoor track, some which he still holds today.

Bickler currently works at Hormel Foods in Austin on the management team as a Systems Programmer and is a volunteer assistant in the cross country and track programs at Pacelli High School. He is married to Robyn (Schmidt) Bickler and has two children.

Amy Bickler, class of 2002

Amy was a standout athlete in three sports, volleyball, gymnastics, and softball. She earned 13 All-Conference awards, three in volleyball, and five each in gymnastics and softball.

Amy also earned All-State Academic awards in all three sports. Amy was a three time state qualifier in gymnastics earning five all-state awards and a state title on her floor routine. She was an All-State pitcher for the softball team which qualified for state in 1999, when it took fourth place, and 2001, when it took second place. Amy pitched a perfect game on May 17, 2002.

She was selected to participate on the Minnesota All-Star team her senior year. Amy graduated from Winona State University with degrees in Business and Accounting. While attending WSU she competed on their gymnastic team, earning All-American Scholar awards all three years and qualifying for the National Gymnastics Tournament in 2005.

Amy lives in Austin with her two daughters and holds a management position with Hormel Foods.

Kellen Blaser, class of 2006

Blaser was a three sport athlete playing football, basketball, and track for Lyle/Pacelli. He earned four All-Conference awards in football, three in basketball and two in track.

In football, Blaser rolled up 2,025 single season and 5,425 career rushing yards and scored 62 touchdowns. He was named to the All-State football team his junior and senior years.

On the hardwood Blaser amassed 1,146 career points. He was a three year letterman in track. Blaser pursued football at St. John’s University where he was a four year letterman at running back and wide receiver.

He graduated from St. John’s in Business Management in 2009. Blaser currently works in Production Management at MedHub. He lives in Woodbury, Minnesota with his wife Alora and and two children.
