Dean Eli Hatfield, 32, of Austin was charged on Monday in Mower County District Court with felony domestic assault. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to court documents, a woman spoke to an officer on April 2 at the Mower County Law Enforcement Center concerning Hatfield punching her in the face. She said she was taking Hatfield to the gas station to buy cigarettes when he started yelling at her and punched her on her right arm and side. He then allegedly punched her in the face, causing a cut on her lip. She said she told him to get out and that he got out when he saw she was calling the police.
Police were not able to locate Hatfield and a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to court documents. They also learned he had an arrest warrant in Dodge County.
A review of Hatfield’s criminal history shows prior convictions for prior convictions for disorderly conduct, assault, drug possession, receiving stolen property and burglary.
Hatfield’s pretrial will be held on Aug. 31.
