Local veterans to honor those who gave their lives

From Bunker Hill, to the shores of Normandy, to the jungles of Vietnam, over 1.1 million Americans have been killed in the service of their country.

This Memorial Day, veteran organizations in the area will allow residents the opportunity to pay their respects by holding memorial ceremonies and programs at cemeteries across Mower County and beyond.

“We need to honor the sacrifices made by these people,” said VFW Post 1216 Adjutant Jim Hecimovich, whose father, the late Norm Hecimovich, organized past Memorial Day services. “It is a day that we honor those that have died in the service of our country and those deceased veterans who served our country.”

All Memorial Day ceremonies are free and open to the public.

“I encourage people to come out and say thank you,” Hecimovich said.
