Edith LaRae Baxter, 89

Edith LaRae Baxter, 89, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, May 25, 2018, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Edith was born Nov. 25, 1928, at Adams, Minnesota, to Leo and Evelyn (Spencer) Oleson and attended school in Lyle, Minnesota. On May 3, 1946, she married Floyd Baxter in Austin while he was on leave from the U.S. Navy. Edith stayed home to raise their children and after Floyd retired, they spent their winters in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Known as “Horse Collar” by her CB handle, Edith ran a CB Base Station out of her home and enjoyed talking to people all over the world. She also liked to crochet, knit, bake and go to stock car races. Edith was a member of Crane Community Chapel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd in 2008; son, Kevin; daughters, Karen and Sandy; and two grandchildren.

Edith is survived by her children, Diane Schocker, Devils Lake, North Dakota, Brian (Brenda) Baxter, Holley, New York and Kathy (Larry) Mensing, Faribault, Minnesota; son-in-law, Lester Baldus, Cottage Grove, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister Darlene (Kenny) Buttolph, Anchorage, Alaska; brother, Leon (Lou) Oleson, Merriville, Tennessee; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 31 at Crane Community Chapel with the Rev. Dale Christiansen officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service on Thursday.

Memorials may be designated to Sacred Heart Care Center or Crane Community Chapel.
