With the city and county election-filing period coming to a close on Tuesday, two Austin City Council seats still have no candidates.
As of Friday afternoon, no one has yet filed to run for the council member, Ward 1, or council member, Ward 3 seats.
Councilman Jeff Austin and Councilwoman Judy Enright currently hold the Ward 1 and Ward 3 seats respectively. Austin has filed to run for the at-large council seat, currently held by retiring Councilwoman Janet Anderson, and Enright has chosen not to seek re-election.
According to City Clerk Ann Kasel, any interested candidate must be at least 21 years old, a registered voter and a resident of the ward for which he or she is running. Filing costs $25 and must be done at the clerk’s office at City Hall. Candidates will also be provided with information regarding campaign rules and regulations and a precinct map for the city.
The First Ward consists primarily of Northwest Austin, the Second Ward consists primarily of Southwest Austin and the Third Ward consists primarily of Northeast and Southeast Austin.
