Letter: Should we exercise caution when supporting freedom of religion?

Our American Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life …”
Memorial Day is a recognition of those who sacrificed to preserve and protect that right to life.
Should we Americans support our First Amendment that prevents Congress from making law that prohibits the free exercise of religion even when religion instructs its followers to kill those who do not submit to that religion or its god?
Should we protect the free exercise of religion when a practicing religion intends to take our life?
