Accident leads to arrest

Vincent Johnny, 28, of Austin was arrested on Monday on a suspected DWI after his car hit another vehicle.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, police were called at 4:25 p.m. on Monday regarding an accident on First Avenue Southwest near Main Street. Johnny’s vehicle, a red Chevy Malibu, had rear-ended a white Toyota driven by a 26-year-old Austin man.

Johnny was arrested on a suspected DWI after he allegedly slurred his speech, had poor balance and red eyes. He allegedly refused all testing at the Mower County Jail.

Police found scales in Johnny’s car, one of which had marijuana residue, according to Krueger.

A review of Johnny’s criminal record shows prior convictions for DWI, possession of a small amount of marijuana and disorderly conduct. He is currently on probation and was placed on a 72-hour hold by his probation officer. He is awaiting possible charges of second-degree DWI, possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving and driving after the revocation of his license.

No injuries were reported in the accident.
