Derrell Marcell Kelley, 28, was charged on Thursday in Mower County District Court with felony domestic assault and felony first-degree damage to property-value reduced over $1,000.
According to court documents, police spoke to a woman on Wednesday at an Austin residence. She said that Kelley lived in the Twin Cities, but frequently stayed with her. She alleged that he destroyed her iPhone, valued at $400, because she had received Snapchats from someone else. She also alleged that he had pulled the turn signal switch from the steering column of her car on Tuesday and threw the switch and keys somewhere. The damage was estimated to be approximately $1,300 to $1,800.
Court documents also state she told police Kelley had been abusive toward her the previous Saturday night/Sunday morning while they were at a bar in Austin. She alleged that he punched her in the face while at the bar, then went back to her place and punched her in her arm. Police allegedly noticed visible bruising on her arm.
Police spoke to the bar owner, who indicated the bouncer saw a man punch a woman in the face on the night in question, according to the court documents.
A review of Kelley’s criminal record shows prior convictions for assault.
Kelley will appear in court again on June 28.
