Law enforcement is urging residents living in rural areas to be on the lookout after mail was stolen from a rural Austin mailbox.
According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, a woman called the Sheriff’s Office at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday to report her outgoing mail had been stolen from her mailbox in the 54000 block of 300th Street in rural Austin. She said she noticed that the mailbox was open and when she went down the road to investigate, she saw a discarded piece of mail that belonged to a neighbor.
She reported that she had placed bill payments in the mailbox and had called the bank to stop any payments.
There are no suspects at this time.
May said to call the Mower County Law Enforcement Center at 507-437-9400 to report any suspicious activity.
