Jeffery J. Flynn, M.D., 64, of Fridley, Minnesota, died peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at home amid a rainbow of flowers he cultivated.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1953, to Lillian and Milton “Jack” Flynn in Austin, Minnesota. Jeff was a renaissance man.

Though studious and academically successful, his parents encouraged his participation in Boy Scouts and helped him achieve the high honor of Eagle Scout rank. His siblings, Patty (Larry) Heimsness, Tom (Sharon) Flynn, Steve (Margo) Flynn and Erin (Todd) Koepp also remember summertime waterskiing shenanigans and his pet duck, Robert.

Childhood tap-dancing turned into creating the annual Miss Arcadia Pageant which, filled with his imaginative medleys of music, word and dance, were quite simply the best.

He always said his greatest production was the gift of life. While in Mayo Medical School, he and his former wife, Margo (McGrew), both managed the Ronald McDonald house and started their own family that blossomed into four delightful and well-behaved children: Matthew, Maren, Peter and Kyle (Alexandra). Dr. Flynn was the first to greet many of the newborn infants of Arcadia, Wisconsin, where he was the town doctor for 17 years, sang in the church choir and volunteered with the Lions Club. He often quoted the Cowardly Lion from the “Wizard of Oz,” “Courage.”

When Minnesota had the courage to embrace love and vote for marriage equality, he and his life partner, David Kohn, celebrated their marriage vows at home amid their rainbow of flowers.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Margo. His husband, children, siblings and parents, as well as numerous extended family and friends, will remember Jeff.

A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018, at Luther Seminary Chapel of the Incarnation in the Olson Community Center, 1490 Fulham Street, Saint Paul, MN. Memorials may be directed to Clare Housing, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the Ronald McDonald House,
