Dean Eli Hatfield, 32, of Austin was charged on Tuesday in Mower County District Court with felony fifth-degree drug possession and misdemeanor driving after suspension of his license.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, an officer spotted Hatfield driving at 12:43 p.m. on Monday near Fourth Street Southwest. Hatfield had a warrant for failing to appear in court on a property damage charge and the officer followed him onto Second Avenue Southwest and initiated a traffic stop. Hatfield stopped the car in an alleyway and was arrested.
The officer searched Hatfield and found a small bag in his right pocket containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, Krueger said.
Hatfield was charged last week in Mower County District Court with felony check forgery-offer/possess with intent to defraud and misdemeanor driving after suspension of his license after he got caught allegedly trying to cash a stolen check. He is also awaiting pre-trial on a felony domestic assault charge, to which he has pled not guilty.
