Michael John McClatchey, 44, of Owatonna was charged on Wednesday in Mower County District Court with three counts of felony fifth-degree drug possession, felony violent felon in possession of firearm ammunition, misdemeanor driving after revocation of his license, petty misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and petty misdemeanor speeding.

According to court documents, a Mower County deputy clocked a 2004 Dodge pickup driven by McClatchey going 59 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone at about 9:34 p.m. on Monday in Leroy. The deputy followed and initiated a traffic stop after allegedly observing the vehicle crossing the center line into the opposing traffic lane after passing 790th Avenue.

When the deputy approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of marijuana, the court documents state. The deputy inquired about the smell and McClatchey allegedly produced a smoking device that he said was for THC wax. The deputy also smelled fresh marijuana and McClatchey allegedly produced a zip top bag of marijuana labeled “Cookies and Cream” from the center console when the deputy inquired. McClatchey allegedly also said he had seven ounces of marijuana “for a friend.”

Deputies searched the vehicle and found shotgun shells, another THC smoking device with THC oil, syringes, a fast food bag containing a large amount of marijuana and a small bag containing methamphetamine, according to court documents. In all, McClatchey was allegedly found to be in possession of 201 grams of marijuana and 1.18 grams of methamphetamine.

A review of McClatchey’s criminal record shows prior convictions for the possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

McClatchey will appear in court again on July 9.
