Machine shed heavily damaged in rural fire; Estimated replacement cost of $650K

The Rose Creek Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a machine shed Thursday night in rural Rose Creek.

According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, the Mower County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 9:25 p.m. on Thursday about a machine shed fire at 12641 610th Ave. in rural Rose Creek. When deputies arrived, they saw flames coming from the window of the 202’ x 90’ shed. Flames were also in the workshop and tool storage area.

The Rose Creek and Lyle Fire Departments responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

The owners said they were able to move some of the equipment out before first responders arrived on the scene, according to May.

An ag sprayer valued at $250,000 was lost in the fire. The extent of damage to other equipment in the shed is unclear.

The building carries an estimated replacement cost of $650,000, May said.

The cause of the fire is uncertain at this time; however, May indicated the state fire marshal will not be called to investigate.
