David Kranz, 72, former reporter and city editor of the Austin Daily Herald, died Saturday, June 23, 2018, in Watertown, South Dakota.

David joined the newspaper after graduating from South Dakota State University in 1968. He returned to South Dakota in 1976 when he was hired as managing editor of the Mitchell Daily Republic.
In 1983, he was hired as executive city editor of the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader. During his 27-year career there, he was also managing editor before returning to reporting and then a political columnist. He retired in 2010 due to health issues.
Survivors are his brother, Ken (Colleen) of Golden, Colorado; sisters, Roxy (Mark) Benjamin of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Cindy Kranz (Doug Hladky) of Cincinnati, Ohio; six nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 29, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown. Memorials may be made to David Kranz-Argus Leader Journalism Scholarship, South Dakota Community Foundation, P.O. Box 296, Pierre, SD 57501.
