Man charged with using fraudulent check; Allegedly made check out to bar for $985

Brendan Charles Johnson, 35, of Brownsdale was charged on Monday in Mower County District Court with felony check forgery-offer with intent to defraud.

According to the court complaint, an officer was called on March 16 to Bobee Jo’s Bar concerning a fraudulent check. An employee told the officer he had received the check, cashed in the amount of $985, from Johnson on March 10.

The officer reviewed surveillance video that showed Johnson cashing the check, the complaint states.

A review of Johnson’s criminal record shows a prior conviction for theft. He is a suspect in a recent burglary at Steve’s Pizza and is currently in jail on recent charges of felony third-degree burglary, felony theft-take/use/transfer movable property without consent, two counts of gross misdemeanor counterfeit currency-utter or possess, misdemeanor fifth-degree assault-fear of bodily harm and two counts of misdemeanor theft-take/use/transfer movable property without consent.

Johnson will appear in court again on July 3.
